How did I get started on this journey with essential oils??? I am so glad you asked. Sit back, get comfy, and let the crazy journey begin. First, let me start by saying, I was NEVER into the “natural way of life”. Nope. Not this girl. If my yearbook in school had a section for “least likely to use essentials oils”, my picture would be plastered right on it. I have rolled my eyes so many times when people would talk about going “all natural”, it’s not even funny.  I also had a major chip on my shoulder when it came to those who worked in network marketing. I couldn’t stand the idea of all these people thinking they could “get rich quick” working four hours a week. I mean SERIOUSLY, you aren’t pulling one over on me. I would be thinking in my head, “Come on people, why don’t you go get a real job?” Oh my, I told you I had issues. As I sit back and think on all these amazing qualities I possessed back in the day, I can clearly see the Lord has an amazing sense of humor. My mom always told me, “Never say never.” Boy was she right.

Here we are in the year 2017 and it’s now been four years since I began my journey with not only essential oils, but also network marketing. I went from being totally opposed to two ways of life, to embracing them. I have not only embraced these ways of life, but I have fallen in love with this lifestyle. So how did this transformation happen? Well, since I’ve been flat out honest with you from the beginning, I will continue just telling it like it is…I was tricked. Yep. TRICKED. I blame, I mean I thank, my friend Kelli Wright and my husband Jeremiah for this journey. They both pulled one over on me. I can explain.

In October 2012, my friend Kelli forced me to take a lavender pill. I was minding my own business, thinking she was rather odd for dousing her family with oils, and the next thing I know she has made me a pill and telling me to take it. We were out in the middle of nowhere touring a farm. My life flashed before my eyes. I never did anything remotely sketchy growing up. I signed the Nancy Reagan Just Say No To Drugs Campaign when I was in 4th grade. I walked the straight and narrow people. Here I was, 30 something, and I was about to fall into peer pressure. How did this happen? I couldn’t say no. I’m sorry Nancy. I took the pill and knew it was only a matter of time before the inevitable was going to happen. I was going to die. I mean how horrible that it was going to be a lavender pill that did me in? We were so far away from town. I knew the ambulance wouldn’t make it to me in time. I could just hear the people standing over my casket discussing the fateful lavender pill I consumed. The next thing I know, I snap out of my craziness. I was still living and breathing. I was alive, and in a crazy weird way, I liked this lavender my friend gave me.

I went home, researched essential oils, then immediately bought this little kit of goodness from Young Living. My kit didn’t come with a diffuser like they do now, but I’m not bitter. Nope. I’ve moved on. When I went on the website to place my order I realized it was a network marketing company. Ummm, what in the world? I quickly told Kelli I was never going to work the business side of this thing. I was just going to use the products. Don’t ask me to teach a class. Don’t ask me to hold parties. I was never going to be that person. Nope. Not me. You can see where this is going, right?

I quickly fell in love with the products we were using from Young Living and got sucked into a promo they were offering in January 2013. If we spent “x” amount of money on products that month, we would get a few oils for free. Ummmm, HELLOOOO, I had to have it. Insert problem, I quit work a few months previously and we had no money. Here is where my husband Jeremiah enters the scene. He had this amazing idea for me to try out. Jump on Facebook and see if any friends wanted to try out some products. Hmmmm, that could work. I mean, I totally was never ever going to do the business, but it could never hurt to allow a few friends to try some things and score some free items. I took his advice, tons of friends ordered, and things began to get a little interesting. My friends began sending me messages of how much they loved what they ordered. This should have been a total no brainer, why would they not love it? There was something about hearing the excitement in their voices that sparked a little something inside of me. What if I just “stuck my toe” in the business side of this thing? I wouldn’t have to make it a major career, but a little extra spending money wouldn’t be bad. This is how the journey began. Nothing major earth shattering. Just a friend being a pill pusher and a hubby who knew we had no extra cash on hand.

My story doesn’t really end there, that is just how it got started. There is so much more to the beginning stages of my journey. I want to share those with you as well. I am very thankful the Lord’s ways are bigger than our own ways. In my next post, I am going to share how I built the foundation of my business on prayer. I am confident that giving God control over every aspect of your life, including your business, is the smartest decision you will ever make. Now, you have to pinky promise me you are going to come back and check it out…okay? Don’t be a stranger around here.

Love ya!
